Vinyl Fabric

1. The Science of the "Wet Look"

Vinyl fabric (also known as PVC or Patent Spandex) is a composite textile. It begins with a 2-way or 4-way stretch base—typically a polyester or nylon knit—which is then laminated with a layer of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) or Polyurethane (PU).

• Gloss vs. Matte Vinyl: High-gloss vinyl offers a mirrored, "wet-look" finish that is waterproof and highly reflective. Matte or "Subdued" vinyl provides a tactical, leather-like aesthetic.

• Thickness and Gauge: Professional grade vinyl is measured in millimeters or GSM. A higher gauge provides more structure for corsetry or boots, while a thinner gauge allows for the extreme mobility required in dance and cosplay.
