Fabric Fundamentals

1. What is the difference between 2-way and 4-way stretch?

Answer: 2-way stretch fabrics expand in one direction (usually from selvage to selvage), while 4-way stretch fabrics expand both horizontally and vertically. For dancewear, cosplay, and high-performance athletic gear, 4-way stretch is highly recommended for maximum mobility and a perfect fit.

2. What does "GSM" mean, and why does it matter?

Answer: GSM stands for Grams per Square Meter, which measures the weight and density of the fabric. A higher GSM (200+) usually indicates a thicker, more opaque fabric ideal for leggings and swimwear, while a lower GSM is better for lightweight overlays or linings.

3. Is your Spandex fabric "squat-proof" or see-through?

Answer: We prioritize high-quality, high-density knits. Most of our performance spandex and tricot fabrics are designed to be opaque; however, lighter colors or lower GSM fabrics may require a lining. We recommend checking the specific product weight or ordering a swatch for your project.

4. What is Power Mesh used for?

Answer: Power Mesh is a breathable, lightweight knit with incredible recovery. It is most commonly used for "illusion" panels in dance costumes, structural lining in swimwear, or as compression inserts in athletic wear to provide support without adding bulk.

Care & Durability

5. How should I wash my performance fabrics to keep them stretchy?

Answer: To preserve the life of the spandex fibers, hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Avoid fabric softeners and bleach, as these can break down the elasticity over time. Always hang or lay flat to dry; never use a high-heat dryer.

6. Will the foil or glitter prints on the fabric rub off?

Answer: While all specialty prints require extra care, our fabrics use professional-grade bonding. To prevent "dulled" spots or shedding, turn garments inside out before washing and avoid abrasive surfaces.

7. Can I use these fabrics for swimwear and chlorine environments?

Answer: Yes! Many of our nylon-spandex blends are chlorine-resistant. For the best longevity in pool or salt water, we recommend our specific Swimwear Tricot collections, which are engineered to resist fading and fiber breakdown.

Project Specifics (Cosplay & Dance)

8. Which fabric is best for a superhero cosplay or catsuit?

Answer: For a professional "hero" look, our Heavyweight Nylon Spandex or Shiny Foggy Foil fabrics provide the best compression and sheen. They offer the durability needed for long convention days while maintaining a sleek, cinematic appearance.

9. Can I dye Spandex or Polyester fabrics myself?

Answer: Spandex is a synthetic fiber and does not take standard household dyes well. If you need a custom color, it is best to use dyes specifically formulated for synthetics (like disperse dyes) or choose from our wide range of pre-dyed and digitally printed fabrics.

10. Do I need a special sewing machine for these fabrics?

Answer: You can use a standard home sewing machine! The key is using a Stretch Needle (Ballpoint) and a "zigzag" or "stretch stitch" so the seams can expand with the fabric without snapping the thread.

Ordering & Shipping

11. Do you offer fabric swatches?

Answer: Yes! Because colors can vary on different screens, we highly recommend ordering swatches. This allows you to feel the "hand" of the fabric and test the stretch before committing to a large project.

12. What is the width of your fabric bolts?

Answer: Most of our specialty performance fabrics come in a standard width of 58 to 60 inches. We list the exact usable width on every product page to help you calculate your yardage accurately.

13. Can I buy fabric at wholesale prices?

Answer: Absolutely. We offer wholesale pricing for bulk orders and "by the bolt" purchases. Please contact our team directly or visit our Wholesale section for tiered discount information.

14. How fast is shipping for my order?

Answer: We understand that performance deadlines come fast! Most in-stock orders are processed within 1–2 business days. We offer various shipping speeds at checkout to ensure your fabric arrives in time for your competition or event.

15. What is your return policy on cut fabric?

Answer: Since fabric is cut specifically to your requested length, we generally do not accept returns on cut yardage unless there is a manufacturer defect. We encourage using our swatch service to ensure the fabric meets your needs before the final cut.
